A Tour Through the Southwest: Taos
Did you know that there are more professional artists, per capita, in Taos than in any other city in the world, including Paris? How did this happen, you ask? Well, it all started with a broken wagon wheel.
In 1898, on the advice of a friend from art school in Paris, two adventurous, young artists made a stop in the Taos area en route to Mexico. The New Mexico excursion was only supposed to take two days but unfortunately their wagon wheel broke stranding the young men in the area for over a week. After this time, Bert Geer Phillips and Ernest Blumenschein (yes, Bert & Ernie) were so enchanted by the town's natural beauty and culture that they scratched their Mexico plans and set up shop right there founding what would become one of the most important artist communities in the world, the Taos Society of Artists. In honor of fate and talent colliding, Angel Fire Vodka has created The Broken Wheel:
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz Angel Fire Vodka 1/2 oz Lime Juice 2 1/2 oz Ginger Ale 1 oz Blood Orange Juice 3/4 oz Amaro or Citrus Liqueur
Directions
Combine Angel Fire Vodka, Amaro or citrus liqueur, lime juice, and ginger ale.
Add ice, then slowly pour in blood orange juice.
Garnish with a blood orange slice if desired.
